MY STORY

The beginning…

A life is a pastiche of interwoven chapters, and this chapter began in 2008, on a drive with friends two hours north to the Russian River. In a prior chapter, my time was spent playing in the dense brush of rural Michigan: exploring forests, picking brambles from my hair, eschewing the sun’s glare with the leavings of Beech trees, or Swamp Birch, spending daily eternities splashing in bodies of water. The Russian River reminded me of home. 

Fast forward to 2013, I was given the opportunity to buy property in Monte Rio. I quickly made the decision to drop anchor and carve a part of my childhood into the old growth redwoods of Northern California.

As an artist, my passion lies steadfastly in creating visual experiences that express a part of myself that I offer for others to enjoy. Much like my chosen profession as an artist, The Crows Nest, my property just outside of Monte Rio, is a piece of myself that I enjoy sharing with others.

Where two rivers meet…

When I can, I enjoy returning to the midwest to visit family and friends. So close to me are those summer days spent lackadaisically exploring the Sturgeon River, in my hometown, Indian River, MI, that I began hosting work retreats on its banks.  When I finally found Fernside, in my hometown, I jumped at the chance to plant myself back firmly in the wilds of my youth. 

It’s been a pleasure of mine to share the skies, seemingly larger than the ground we’re on, the rivers, whose twists and turns ribbon the countryside, and the foliage, which effervescently breathes the seasons in and out of existence, with my friends and family. I want to broaden the scope of my love for this area, and share my passion for Indian River with everyone.
